Miami-Dade County considers tiny homes to address ongoing housing crisis
The lack of affordable housing is a major issue in South Florida, with people doubling up with family or friends, couch surfing, or even ending up on the street. To combat this, Miami-Dade County has started buying buildings to convert into affordable housing units and approved the installation of accessory dwelling units. Companies such as SteelHomes Modular build steel modular homes in a controlled environment for a lower cost, and traditional loans are available for them. Boxabl is another company that sells tiny homes that are shipped folded like a box, although they are not yet approved in Florida.
