Florida program has $10,000 for you if you’re hardening your home against hurricanes
The My Safe Florida Home program, launched in November, provides grants up to $10,000 to Florida residents to help them harden their homes for hurricane season. To qualify for the program, applicants must own and live in the home, qualify for the homestead exemption, have an insured value of $700,000 or less, and have an initial building construction permit issued prior to January 1, 2008. Low-income applicants can receive funds without having to make matching payments. Over 19,000 residents have applied to the program, 11,904 have been approved, and 451 have been reimbursed.
